Fire Protection Engineer

Moseley Architects, recognized as one of the most trusted and fastest growing design firms in the mid-atlantic, is seeking a full-time Fire Protection Engineer to be an integral member of our Richmond, Virginia office location. 
 
Location: Richmond, Virginia

Experience
  • 5 years of fire protection engineering, and design experience, preferably with large institutional or commercial projects from schematic design through construction administration.
  • A four-year engineering degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • PE preferred.   
 
Responsibilities
  • The ability to provide technical assistance to architects, contractors and other private industry personnel in designing fire protection systems, interpreting and complying with fire codes and standards. 
  • Determines whether water availability and water delivery systems are adequate to protect buildings.
  • The ability to evaluate contractors’ performance in meeting agency requirements and objectives, reviews design documentation, and advises project team regarding fire safety, property protection and public safety.
  • Provides technical advice to contractors, architects and engineers while designing and reviewing fire protection system plans, monitoring code information and conducting site inspections for new construction projects.
 
Required Skills
  • The knowledge and skills to review construction site plans and building plans for compliance with fire protection codes and standards.
  • Good working knowledge of REVIT.
  • Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively within an AE environment as an effective member of multi-discipline project teams. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to provide strict attention to detail and be a good troubleshooter and problem solver who works well under pressure with a can-do attitude. 
  • Working knowledge of codes and standards such as NFPA, IBC, and IFC.
 
Software Proficiencies
  • CADD Experience- Autodesk Revit (BIM) experience is mandatory
  • Sketchup
  • Microsoft Office Suite

A valid, unrestricted driver’s license and driving record, as deemed acceptable by our firm’s liability insurance carrier, must be presented and maintained.
