We are looking for a new Director of Design Technology. In this role, you’ll spearhead our Design Technology group—driving BIM innovation, visualization workflows, computational design strategies, and automation initiatives that elevate project delivery and strengthen Moseley’s competitive edge. This is a pivotal leadership role that shapes technology standards, develops Revit resources, mentors emerging professionals, optimizes software investments, and represents the firm as a thought leader across industry platforms.
What’s needed: Prior hands‑on experience in a corporate architecture or engineering environment with a Bachelor’s degree plus 7+ years of proven leadership success guiding the design technology practice within a multi‑office architectural or engineering firm. Location: Richmond, VA
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
7+ years’ experience in leading architectural technology practice with a multi-office architectural/engineering firm
Experience practicing architecture/engineering in a corporate setting
Responsibilities:
Lead the firmwide Design Technology group, deploying BIM, visualization, and computational design strategies to enhance design, production, and visualization across the firm
Collaborate with discipline leaders on strategic implementation of technology into practice, significantly improving project outcomes and marketability of services and capabilities
Identify and lead technology-focused initiatives to foster internal growth strategies, including automation and other efficiencies
Create in-house automation tools and strategies across multiple platforms, saving significant hours annually
Manage software licensing and procurement, leveraging usage analysis tools to achieve cost savings during renewals and vendor negotiations
Develop comprehensive Revit templates, libraries, processes, documentation, support frameworks, and training programs
Develop strategies for technology skills assessment and improvement to promote consistency across offices
Ensure technology standards and knowledge-building strategies are integrated consistently between offices and locations
Collaborate with Design Technology team members to provide and delegate timely support for daily questions regarding BIM from all disciplines
Participate in mentoring and coaching of emerging professionals to strengthen firmwide depth of knowledge across disciplines for all design related technology solutions
Represent the firm as a technology thought leader by presenting the firm’s technology achievements at conferences, industry forums, publications and other public platforms
Participate in mentoring and coaching of emerging professionals.
Additional Responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills:
Subject Matter Expert on all production related software applications (eg. Revit, AutoCAD)
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Capable of developing and executing strategic plans.
Strong ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
Understanding of IT solutions implementation, including software procurement, licensing, and deployment with a focus on reducing and rightsizing software license costs
Demonstrated success implementing firmwide standards and automation strategies, including coding and visual programming platforms
Firm understanding of design trends, construction methodologies, and material application
Software Proficiency:
Microsoft Office Suite experience required
Various productivity, BIM, visualization, sustainability, and data analysis technologies including Adobe Creative Cloud, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, Cove.Tool, Bluebeam, Power BI, and Lumion experience required
